How to Cope With the Loss of a Pet?

Pets are such great living things, aren't they? They bring so much joy into our lives and they help us lighten up during the hard times. They are always there to help us at some of the most difficult times in our lives. But there does come a time when they leave, and when they do leave, it gets really difficult to deal with.

Who wouldn't be sad when a close pet dies? Our pets sort of become like family and it gets difficult to deal with the fact that they are gone.

Once the pet is gone, it's only normal that you have that pain and despair inside you. First, you need to accept that.

The way to get over the death of your pet is to first remember them immensely.

Yes, remembering. Why don't you just try remembering the good times right now? Just remember the feelings that you had with your pet, focus on those feelings and really dive deep inside those feelings. This, sort of, allows you to remember it and it sort of gives you the "sense"  that everything will be okay again. It shows you that your pet is still there...inside your heart, memory and soul. It's like to be with your pet again, one more time, as your last glimpse.

Then, when you feel that you're ready, let your pet go. Imagine your pet slowly moving towards the rainbow bridge.

This one exercise is great and can really be used every time that you feel like falling into a deep sorrow again.

Another important thing to help you cope with the loss of your pet is to surround yourself with your friends and family. Some people like to surround themselves with other people who knew their pet. That works too. It's really your choice and your decision. Just make sure you feel comfortable with the people you are with. In that way, they will help you to cope with your loss more easily.

There is plenty of ways to help you to cope with the loss of a pet. And one last way to help you is through giving your pet a good funeral. When setting up a funeral for your pet, it's best that you honor your pet's death with a beautiful pet urn. The pet urns and pet memorials are used to honor the beloved lost companion and also as a nice way to say "farewell" to a dear friend.

Here at Pet Memorials, we have many different types of pet urns available.

They come in all shapes, sizes and prices. One of my favorite set of pet urns is the Brass pet urns. They give you a "memorial" type of feeling and they look very classical.

I'm also a big fan of the granite pet urns. The distinct veining patterns of the stone make each urn unique... Unique as your beloved pet.

Another thing worth remembering when deciding which pet urns to buy is to remember to get one that really gives you good memories about your pet. I hear lots of stories of pet owners choosing a pet urn that gave them a bad memory only because they follow someone’s advice at the moment where they bought the urn. It’s your animal and your feelings. Follow your heart and you can be sure that you will never regret which urn you did buy to honor your companion

As you can see, leaving a pet behind is devastating. It's very difficult to move on knowing that you are not going to have your pet with you anymore. But it's all a part of life and it's something that we just have to accept.

As I said before…. let your pet go, remember the good times, give him/her a wonderful funeral and keep his/her ashes in a beautiful pet urn placed peacefully in a mantelpiece of your living room.
